Langley Centennial Museum & National Exhibition Site: First Nations Contemporary Print Making Kit
In 2007 Kimberly researched, developed and created an educational outreach kit on Northwest Coast First Nations printmaking for theLangley Centennial Museum & National Exhibition Site. The First Nations Printmaking kit is designed to complement the B.C. Grade 4 Visual Arts Curriculum and can also be applied to Language Arts, Geography, History and Science. The learning objectives for the students are: observation, identification, cultural design, printmaking skills and cultural sensitivity, as well as critical and creative thinking.
This hands - on kit includes a teacher’s guide, original First Nations prints, map, resource materials and printmaking materials to introduce students to the printmaking practices. The kit focuses on the study of Northwest Coast historical and contemporary symbols and their meanings in two-dimensional design: in order to demonstrate the vitality of First Nations life today. Through discussion, observation and art practice students will develop an understanding and respect for the continuing importance of Northwest Coast First Nations cultures.
