The Suburbia series represents the in-between spaces which occur as the landscape changes from forests and farmlands into suburban neighbourhoods, shopping malls and fast food restaurants. The photographs capture images of displacement as wildlife, domestic animals and people are enveloped in transition. Empty buildings are reclaimed by homeless people squatting, beaver dams are bulldozed over, and fishing ponds run dry. All is in a transitory state, soon to be forgotten as the transformation becomes complete.
The article Suburbia, explores the historical manifestations of suburbia past and present. She considers the cost of the suburban lifestyle, questions its impact on the environment and world resources, and explores the concepts of new urbanism and smart growth development models for the future.
